Maiwald advised Royalty Pharma on its acquisition of a portion of Neurimmune’s royalty interest in AstraZeneca’s investigational therapy cliramitug. The transaction is valued at up to USD 425 million, comprising an upfront payment of USD 125 million and potential additional payments upon the achievement of specified development and regulatory milestones.
Cliramitug is a first-in-class monoclonal antibody currently in Phase III clinical development for the treatment of transthyretin amyloid cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM), a severe and progressive cardiovascular disease with significant unmet medical need.
The transaction further strengthens Royalty Pharma’s portfolio of innovative biopharmaceutical assets while providing Neurimmune with additional funding to advance its research and development pipeline. It also highlights the growing importance of royalty transactions as a financing model within the life sciences sector.
Maiwald acted as Intellectual Property Counsel to Royalty Pharma, providing patent law expertise in support of the transaction.
