The Legal 500 series is considered the world’s largest legal advice directory, surveying and interviewing more than 300,000 corporate lawyers worldwide each year. The Legal 500 Guide is an independent frame of reference that recommends law firms, sets and individuals solely on the basis of their performance.
We are pleased that Maiwald is listed again this year and even recommended as the leading law firm in two categories. Maiwald has in the field of Patent Prosecution “carved out a strong practice developing registration strategies and handling opposition and appeal proceedings before the European Patent Office, while also having notable experience in complementary protection certificates. As well as its traditional strength in pharmaceutical and life sciences sector work, the Munich-based boutique is increasingly expanding its engineering sector portfolio, which includes digitalisation and artificial intelligence as well as IT and telecommunications and medical technology mandates. Its international practice showed a significant increase in Japanese and Chinese clients. Key members of the team include Dirk Bühler (biotechnology), Eva Dörner (chemistry, pharmaceuticals and crop protection), Eva Ehlich (chemistry and pharmaceuticals) and Martin Huenges (biotechnology and pharmaceuticals). Simon Lud (telecommunications and communications engineering, automotive, digitalisation, computer-implemented inventions) and Claus Schindele (chemistry, most notably polymer chemistry and thin-layer technology) were elevated to the partnership in July 2018 and November 2018 respectively.“
Maiwald also enjoys a fine reputation in the Patent Litigation practice area under the leadership of Marco Stief. Legal 500 EMEA recommends: “Much of its work pertains to disputes in the pharmaceutical and life sciences sectors but the team also has a strong profile for proceedings concerning technology patents. Clients also benefit from the firm’s expansion of its engineering practice.”
