Maiwald appoints Dr. Kerstin Wolff as Partner

Maiwald, one of Germany’s leading intellectual property law firms, has appointed Dr. Kerstin Wolff as Partner effective from 1 March 2026. This appointment further strengthens Maiwald’s growing pharmaceuticals and biotechnology division at the partner level.

Dr. Kerstin Wolff has been with Maiwald for ten years, functioning as a licensed patent attorney since 2019. She primarily deals with IP rights in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors, specializing in innovative biotechnological and pharmaceutical developments, including genome editing, antisense oligonucleotides, plant-related applications and CAR-T cell therapies.

She advises clients on all matters relating to patent prosecution, national and international portfolio management, and patent litigation, in particular opposition, appeal and revocation proceedings. Within the firm, she is co-editor of MAIinsight, Maiwald’s digital specialist magazine for intellectual property law, in which a team of the firm’s experts publishes insights, analyses, and updates on IP law and case law.

Kerstin completed a diploma in biology at Georg August University Göttingen, followed by bachelor’s degrees in biology and chemistry at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland (Ohio, USA). There she earned her Ph.D. in the field of molecular biology and microbiology. Her studies focused on antibiotic resistance and redox regulation in mycobacteria. Later, as an associate scientist/postdoctoral fellow at a large corporation in the USA, she worked on the development of antibiotics targeting staphylococci. On her return to Germany, she studied “Law for Patent Attorneys” at the FernUniversität Hagen, and in 2019 was admitted as a German patent attorney and European patent attorney.

“We are delighted to welcome Kerstin to our group of partners. With her proven expertise in the fields of pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, she is certain to make a significant contribution to the further development of this important area of practice”, says Dr. Regina Neuefeind, Partner at Maiwald.
