Maiwald and Oblon Joint Symposium Korea

A big thank you to all attendees of this year’s joint symposium in Seoul on U.S. and European patent practice — and of course to our esteemed colleagues from Oblon for co-hosting this event with us.
We were delighted to host this event in Korea for the first time — and even more pleased to see such strong interest and participation from the industry, Korean associates, research institutions and also courts.
It was a great pleasure to discuss and compare recent developments and fundamental aspects of U.S. and European patent practice with our Korean clients and associates, considering both pre- and post-grant perspectives. This year’s programme focused in particular on:

🔷 Obviousness approaches of the USPTO and the EPO,
🔷 Recent developments in the USPTO — news and surprises,
🔷 An update from the Unified Patent Court — statistics and selected case law,
🔷 as well as claim construction under US law and the recent decision and referral of the EPO’s Board of Appeal G 1/24 and the pending referral G 1/26.

Beyond the sessions, everyone enjoyed continuing the conversations over drinks and hors d’oeuvres during the subsequent reception.

We were delighted by the strong interest and positive response from our Korean clients, associates, and friends on this event — and we look forward to continuing our exchange in Korea in the years to come.
