Assignment of Phoma Macrostoma Patents to Evologic Technologies

Her Majesty the Queen in Right of Canada, as represented by the Canadian Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food (“AAFC”) and Evologic Technologies GmbH have entered into an assignment and licence agreement regarding the Phoma macrostoma technology.

Munich, January 12, 2021: AAFC, one of the major performers of agricultural research in Canada and Evologic Technologies GmbH, a fast growing SpinOff of the Technical University of Vienna in bioprocess platform technology have entered into an assignment and licence agreement to further develop, manufacture and commercialize the Phoma macrostoma technology as a broadleaved weed herbicide. After reviewing some encouraging preliminary results with the technology, Evologic Technologies GmbH acquired the rights to key AAFC Phoma macrostoma patents that will support the commercialization of an environmentally friendly bioherbicide.

In particular, the mycelium and/or spore of the fungus Phoma macrostoma comprise bioherbicidal activity. This selective herbicidal activity is commercially highly relevant in order to replace chemical herbicides to increase sustainability in agriculture. Evologic Technologies will apply its proprietary manufacturing technology to replace the current solid state based manufacturing process to overcome current challenges in unit economics and product stability.

Maiwald Patentanwalts- und Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH acted as legal advisor to Evologic Technologies GmbH. Dr Marco Stief and Tobias Matschke provided the legal advisory and Dr Kerstin Wolff the patent advisory services.
