Maiwald appoints three new counsels

With effect from 1 January 2018, Maiwald Patentanwalts GmbH, one of Germany’s leading IP firms, promoted three of its Munich patent attorneys to Counsel. Patent attorneys Melanie BoosMartina Müller-Dyck and Nils Braun, specialists in the fields of chemistry and pharmaceuticals, have been with the firm for many years. Maiwald believes in the importance of investing in high-potential people, and its appointment of Melanie Boos, Martina MüllerDyck and Nils Braun as Counsel is a further strong impetus to growth in the firm’s important chemistry and pharmaceutics departments.

Melanie Boos (born 1975) studied chemistry at the University of Hamburg, obtaining her doctoral degree in 2004. Prior to joining Maiwald in 2007, she worked at the University of Tübingen and at the RMIT University of Melbourne, Australia. Melanie Boos is a qualified German and European patent attorney, specializing in German and international IP law. The main emphasis of her work is on securing, enforcing and contesting industrial property rights in the fields of chemistry, chemical process engineering and pharmaceuticals.

German and international IP law in the areas of chemistry, pharmaceuticals and chemical process engineering also form the basis of Martina Müller-Dyck’s (born 1978) professional activities. Before joining Maiwald in 2006, she studied chemistry at the University of Heidelberg. After research stints in the USA at John Hopkins University, UC Irvine and NIST Center for Neutron Research, she obtained her doctorate in the field of biophysics from the University of Leipzig in 2006. Martina Müller-Dyck is a German patent attorney and professional representative before the European Patent Office. She is also a member of the Examination Board for prospective German patent attorneys.

Nils Braun (born 1972) has been with Maiwald since 2008. Before joining the firm, he studied chemistry at the Universities of Konstanz and Heidelberg as well as at the University of Sussex in England. He obtained his doctoral degree from the University of Heidelberg in 2004. He later trained as a patent attorney at the Munich firm of Reinhard, Skuhra, Weise & Partner. Nils Braun is a qualified German patent attorney and professional representative before the European Patent Office. He is also a European Trademark and Design Attorney and professional representative before the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). Nils Braun’s professional activities cover national and international intellectual property law and include patent and utility model prosecution and oppositions in the fields of chemistry, chemical process engineering, pharmaceuticals, semiconductor technology and materials sciences.
