At the 2020 joint international symposium, we will together examine selected current aspects of IP practice related to prosecuting applications, transferring rights, and enforcing patents in the U.S. and in Europe. While similarities exist, applicants for U.S. and European patents need to be aware of the peculiarities and most recent developments in each system in order to achieve the best results. In particular, the symposium will address the following important topics for today’s practitioners: 

  1. Claim interpretation during prosecution and admissibility of amendments – how to understand and navigate in examination before the USPTO and EPO;
  2. US patent drafting tips for computer related inventions and EP examination practice on AI and IoT inventions;
  3. US and EP practice on biosimilars and antibodies-related inventions; and
  4. Doctrine of equivalents – recent developments.
