Seminar Series About the Protection of New Technologies: Software Patents in DE, EP and JP

25 Oct 2018

Our seminar series about the protection of new technologies continued with a seminar devoted to software patenting in Germany, Europe and Japan, held in the premises of BeOne in Düsseldorf on 25 October 2018. Dr-Ing. Sophie Ertl opened the event by welcoming the large number of guests in attendance. Dr Simon Lud spoke about the relevant case law of the Federal Supreme Court and the European Patent Office on computer-implemented inventions. This was followed by a talk from Akira Yamazaki, a Japanese patent attorney and Australian attorney-at-law, on patent protection for IoT inventions. We were very pleased to welcome back Mr. Yamazaki from the firm of Isshiki & Co. as speaker, and we again take this opportunity to express our warm thanks for his support. The seminar was successfully rounded off by Dr Michael Rübsamen, who provided an overview of the situation regarding the patentability of information processing and reproduction at the EPA.

Later feedback from the participants was very favourable: guests looked forward to a continuation of the event series and praised the way the event had been organised and presented (not least the buffet).

Also, the time given over to the informal exchange of views and the “large number of competent Maiwald colleagues” were felt to be “very pleasant and rewarding”.

“Exceptionally well-prepared speakers and informative presentation of the relevant facts”.

We are delighted that the event series is enjoying such a positive reception, and will of course keep you informed about future dates.
