
Thomas Mayer was born in 1967 in Kempten/Allgäu. He studied political science and law at the Universities of Würzburg, Berlin and Munich (first state examination 1995, second state examination 1997). Following his first state examination he worked for two years as a scientific assistant at the Freie Universität Berlin.
In 1997 Thomas Mayer was admitted to the German bar. He has since been practicing in the field of IP. He worked initially in a general legal practice, moving to a patent and law office in Munich in 2000. From 2006 to 2008 he worked for the international practice Lovells LLP. He joined Maiwald Patentanwalts GmbH in 2008. In 2009 he became one of its partners and managing directors.
Thomas Mayer speaks German and English (fluent).
His main area of practice encompasses the entire field of intellectual property law. Thomas Mayer specializes in patent law and has extensive experience in patent litigation, including infringement and validity proceedings. His work also involves negotiating and drafting licence contracts and advising on matters related to the German law on employee inventions, unfair competition law and trademark law. In 2008 he was appointed as certified specialist for intellectual property law by the Munich Bar.
Thomas Mayer holds lectures on IP law issues at the University of Applied Sciences in Munich. He is a member of the "Deutsche Vereinigung für Gewerblichen Rechtsschutz (GRUR)" and the "Vereinigung von Fachleuten des Gewerblichen Rechtsschutzes (VPP)".
